Helene Appel’s painting takes the genre of trompe l’oeil to an entirely new level. With a precise eye for detail and a profound sensitivity to materiality, she depicts everyday objects at their original scale – from droplets of water to pieces of fabric. Each subject demands its own unique painterly approach, resulting in works that are both sober and poetic. Her paintings are neither mere illusions nor simple objects – they are quiet meditations on the visible world. In May 2025, Helene Appel will open her first solo exhibition at VAN HORN.
