Wendy White’s work is in many ways a permanent exploration and extension of the possibilities of traditional painting on canvas. She uses a wide range of materials that do not match the classic painterly materials, such as especially fabricated Plexiglass panes and frames made of PVC, carpets or wood. Her work constantly transcends the boundaries of painting towards sculpture, installations and multimedia arrangements. At the same time influences on themes from different cultural spheres come together in her paintings as well: Works in which gender relationships are questioned and their different positions of power are investigated, come alongside works on brand fetishism and works that deal with the visual means of advertising. All works have in common that they display a cool and quite unique, strong attitude, that does not care about what is aesthetically hip and pleasing. The works are not afraid to raise critical questions, and in aesthetically regard, always surprise visually with courageous decisions.
