In Greek mythology, Artemis is the goddess of hunting, virginity, the forest, childbirth and the moon, as well as the guardian of women and children. Callisto (German ‚die Schönste‘) was a nymph associated with Artemis. She was seduced or raped by Zeus and became pregnant as a result of (involuntary) sexual intercourse with Zeus. She was therefore turned into a bear by Hera out of jealousy and later moved to the firmament as a constellation.
