ALEXANDER ESTERS, DIE WELT IST EINE HEISSE SCHEIBE (THE WORLD IS A HOT DISK)
June 24 – August 12, 2006

Alexander Esters prints on his canvases and paper-works with cut-out linoleum stencils. The single pieces combine into a structured space, are telescoped into one another and therefore show diverse perspectives. Puzzle-like, visual worlds full of references come into existence, in which private iconography and quotations from Art-and Cultural History are to be found. Central to the work is the story to be told and the change of the object. One recalls the equipment of cartoons, which develop a life on their own or serve in a very willful manner.“The change between willful realism and ornamentics leads to the surreal. The head as gun, what is arranged inside unloads itself in gestures.“*

Alexander Esters *1977, lives and works in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. He studied at Johannes-Gutenberg University Mainz with Friedemann Hahn and at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He graduated in the masterclass of Albert Oehlen. The exhibition at VAN HORN is his first solo-show. His works were also to be seen at Liste 06 in Basel.

A 28 page booklet is published with the title: “Hat Kopf, Hand, Fuß und Herz” (With Head, Hand, Foot and Heart)
