ROSILENE LUDUVICO, PLAYGROUND
June 27 – August 9, 2008
in collaboration with Galerie Zink, Munich/Berlin

In her first solo-exhibiton at VAN HORN Rosilene Luduvico shows three new works, which she created especially for this occasion.

The title of the exhibition “Playground”, evokes association on diverse levels. Is the gallery the playground? After all Rosilene Luduvico exhibits here for the first time and shows not more than three paintings, which are in addition brandnew. Also the placeless space on the paintings might be a playground for the figures reclined therein, their own experimental field. A playground of a very personal nature is to be seen on the invitation card. It shows that part of the brasilian jungle in which Rosilene Luduvico grew up. This jungle was indeed the playground of her childhood and maybe still is the primordial playground from which she draws her inspiration.

On the three exhibited paintings obviously young people are lying sleeping (dreaming?) in a placeless space made of color. This place can be a neverending landscape, a sand-or ice desert, a ficticious place, outer space or an urban corner of a Mega-City. The sleeping are surrounded by diverse objects – their luggage. Roma, the young man at the red glitter-place, carries obviously all his belongings with him. Sarah, the yong woman in green placelessness, owns only a few pieces of luggage and Chu, in a cool blue space, has not more than a small bag with him and is accompanied only by his plant, like Léon he has no further obligations.

Are those people placeless, homeless, lonesome or happy? Are they travelers, bums or do they just “walk the earth like Caine from Kung Fu”*? It is a soft, mysterious athmosphere these drawings emanate, they puzzle us with their beauty. They are rather to be captured emotionally than intellectually and draw us on closer examination more and more in their touching in-between realm.
